Course status - april april !

Greens

Most of you will know we carried on with testing plastic sheets on greens this year, covering all 20 greens and as of today plastic/fibre sheets are off all the greens.

The last plastic sheets were taken off of greens 4, 8 and 16 last Sunday (29/3), 20 weeks under the sheets and with ice coverage on them for 17 weeks. 17 out of 20 greens have full coverage of grass and will be ready to cut next week if we get the temperatures that are forecast.

3 greens have suffered damage, 4, 11 and 18. A combination of moisture getting underneath the sheets and a build of anaerobic conditions under the sheet is my condition but it’s not so easy to get answers just by looking at dead grass. We are still in testing faze and will try a different approach for next winter to try fix these greens.

I still believe plastic sheets are the answer for Asker GK as we have had ice coverage on the greens for most of the winter and we would of lost a lot more grass if we had not cover all the greens last winter, in my opinion.

A rehabilitation plan for these greens started today and with a little help from the sun and warm temperatures, I feel we can have all 18 greens open for play close to the normal opening time for Asker. Some of the greens still had ice on them 3 days ago, just bare that in mind.

Green 10 looks amazing!

Full grass coverage on 12.

11 is one of three greens that has lost some grass. Will come back pretty fast during april.

You can really see what grass we have covered and not covered. Supergreen on 7.

Tees

They have diseases scars (soppskader) on them, but once they are brushed, feed and watered they will improve pretty quickly.

Fairways

The fairways are at the stage as the tees. We’ve lost a few areas to ice burn but once we get good temperatures after Easter we will see how much damage we actually have.

Green 5 has started to grow long - extremely green - Fairway on 3 in the background.

Now that we been given the green light to open up golf courses again, we are able to start having dugnad help out on the course. If members are willing to offer help to get the course in order ready for opening then please get in contact with the club (james@askergolf.no).

I will come back with more information about the course status in the coming days and weeks. We are really happy for the positive news today and that we can welcome our members back on the course as soon as it’s ready for the season.

Regards James.

First use of the sprinkler system for 2020 today on number 13.
